I am the oldest of 2 kids. We both share a bathroom room. One of us (me) picks up the others dirty tissues, dirty clothes and cleans the spit out the sink almost all the time. i get pissed and yell at her and clean it up while she yells at me for blaming her for everything. For the past 2 weekends each saturday i have cleaned up the bathroom. This weekend my mom comes in and sees it and gets pissed and now both of us cant play our little internet games and such. Now i am in the living room with per playing on my ipod and my sister is hovering over me asking if she can play. Now i cant even play on that! Its just so freaking annoying, I always clean the bathroom and when i refuse to do it both of us get blamed. I admit to having stuff on the ground when she did go into the bathroom but still most of it was not mine! my sister had dirty tissues from her being sick all of the the place, toilet tissue that didn’t make it to the toilet, toothpaste spit in the sink! I ALWAYS clean it up, was this punishment fair?
and what pisses me off even more if she hadnt been hovering over me breathing all over my neck my mom wouldnt have said a word… I had been on the game earlier and she didnt even say anything. Thursday when she took the priveledge away she was specific to zwinky…. Gawd i could just scream!

Plumbing nightmare – am flushing 15 liters of boiling water down JUST to get 15 mins of drainage?
I live in a Victorian mansion block and my shower, bathroom and kitchen sinks are all partially-blocked.

The problem manifested itself 2 weeks ago when the shower was very slow to drain – it’s the lowest point. Since then I called in a plumber who vacuumed my pipes and the problem disappeared for a few days. It’s now returned with a vengeance as my bathroom sink is now taking ages to drain and my kitchen sink also producing a smell.

What I’m finding is that if I pour 15 liters of boiling water down the kitchen sink (highest point), the drainage problem disappears for about 15 mins – when I can actually have a shower – but then the slow drain re-appears immediately.

I went to the length today of getting our building plumbers in the flush the communal waste water stack in case that was the cause of the blockage, but no joy, I’m still having to pour 15 liters of boiling water to ease the problem for 15 mins!

The waste pipes from my flat all join a communal waste stack, and the pipes from the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, shower and appliances all meet before reaching the communal stack.

I’ve checked my dishwasher filter and it was crystal clear. My washing machine filter is problematic to get to and I doubt that that is the problem.

Am worried about pouring One-Shot down the drain incase it weakens the joins and causes a leak into the flat below me.

I have scheduled the buildings plumber to "machine" my local pipes next week, but that’s 7 days away…

Anyone have any bright ideas of what I can try in the meantime? I’m beyond the point of using a plunger I think, and what is "machining" exactly?
Unfortunately, the flat below is vacant so there is no way of checking. I’m equally concerned about causing a problem for the flat above me, or my neighbor next door.
Unfortunately, the plumber cannot come before Monday to machine the pipes. What is machining exactly? What deterioration should I expect if I wait till Monday?

The 1st plumber last week was a bit of a con. He just vacuumed the pipes and said that the next cause of action was an acid wash.
If I put Buster (or some other domestic unblocker down the drain) overnight, would it be safe to run my washing machine? I doubt the that washing machine is causing the problem, but at the same time I don’t want to break it because the water cannot drain??

Just a thought, but as you mention there is an apartment BELOW yours, have you spoken to the occupier of that one? Does he have a similar problem, or is his waste running freely? The answer to that will tell you if it is just your local pipes, or the main downpipe.

I don’t know about "machining" but having seen some professional drain cleaning, suspect it might be high pressure washing. It happened in the level BELOW me and water backed up to my level and overflowed the loo, flooding the bathroom floor.

If boiling water eases the problem then it is a build up of grease that has collected probably with lots of other stuff sticking to it. sounds like it needs a thorough clean out to clear the problem properly.

Ok Sounds like a serious build of grease etc in the pipes just builds up over time your boiling water is liquidating it slightly allowing some water to pass through temporarily.

That’s whats happening and machining is the only solution short of replacing the actual pipes that will sort it out its basically like a coil on the end of a drill the coil spins round loosening the blockage off the pipe wall and chews it up & sends its on its way down the main waste pipe which should be a lot bigger in capacity & will not under normal circumstances block as a result of this being pushed down.

If you have any cleaning products such as mr muscle or similar put them down the shower before you go to bed. then in the morning make sure to fill the sink up with boiling water & release it.

This may help tide you over until monday when the pipes can be fully mahcined/cleaned out

In terms of your first plumber ive never heard of a vacuum being used in the first instance to clear a blockage like this its normally machining first then try & suck the blockage back if no joy

Before splashing out on a plumber, you could try an old housewives trick of pouring a cup or more of baking soda down the drain, then following it up with a similar amount of white vinegar and then pouring boiling water down after it.

The chemical reaction between the soda and vinegar won’t do any harm to your pipes and is non-toxic so you won’t need to worry about it affecting anyone else in your block. It will however start almost immediately to break down any organic blockage in the drain.

Leave the mixture overnight to do the job and then see if the problem persists in the morning. If your pipes drain a little bit faster, just repeat the process until they run properly ^^

I hope so, but idrk, it would be hard to get in contact with all of them, and since its so old, half of the kids r prob. off to collage or moved into another house, so they wont have alot of kids anymore in the movie.
